Sample flights

This deal also has available routes in Alaska and Hawaii. While most of the routes are in major cities, other places like Rochester, New York, and Savannah, Georgia, also have routes to Barcelona.

Here’s a list of flights we’ve rounded up to Barcelona and Madrid:

Aer Lingus: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), starting at $370 (includes a layover in Dublin).
TAP: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to BCN, starting at $397 (includes a layover in Lisbon, Portugal).
TAP: Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), starting at $417 (includes a layover in Lisbon).
Iberia: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to MAD, starting at $490.
Iberia: O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to MAD, starting at $523.
United and Swiss: Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) to BCN, starting at $722 (includes a layover in Los Angeles).

We recommend using Google Flights to plan the dates for your trip and then booking your flights directly on the airline’s website; airlines are more dependable if your flight faces a cancellation, delay or booking change.

For a Jan. 31 flight from JFK to Barcelona, Aer Lingus’ $370 flight at 5:20 p.m. is the lowest fare advertised on Google Flights. However, keep in mind that the Aer Lingus flight is the only one with a layover in Dublin. American and Delta both offer $519 nonstop flights to Barcelona.

GOOGLE FLIGHTS

If you plan to return to JFK a week later, Aer Lingus has an 11:30 a.m. flight which also has a layover in Dublin.

Since Google Flights also offers the option to book via third-party sites, there can be price discrepancies between fares on Google Flights and the respective airline’s website. For example, Google Flights shows a round-trip flight from JFK to Barcelona costs $360 because of third-party booking options, but if you were to book on Aer Lingus’ website, the fare would cost $370.

The discounted fares in these offers are only for basic economy. Aer Lingus’ basic economy fare, known as the airline’s Saver option, allows passengers to bring a carry-on and includes a complimentary meal. The fare does not include checked baggage or advance seat selection.

While seat selection is not included in the Saver fare, you can pick a seat for an additional fee. Seats between New York and Dublin cost anywhere from $29.99 to $114.99 and seats between Dublin and Barcelona cost anywhere from $5.99 to $25.99.

Bottom line

From the cuisine to the historic architecture, Madrid and Barcelona are both worth touring. Even though the New York and Boston areas primarily have the cheapest flights available in this deal, the West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska also have some solid fares to Barcelona and Madrid. Some of these fares are discounted by as much as 54%.
