Over the last few years Nashville, the capital of Tennessee and bachelorette parties, has been in the midst of a hotel boom. It seems like every single month there’s a significant new property opening, including a handful of new points hotels worth considering on a trip to Music City.

As a former Nashville resident and someone who makes multiple trips back to town every year, I’m constantly overwhelmed with the range of hotel options. Let’s just say the Nashville skyline that welcomed me when I moved there for college in 2011 is entirely different than the one you’ll find there over 10 years later. And a lot of those new high-rises are hotels.

There are many folks with their eyes on the really luxe options opening up, like the now-open Conrad Nashville and the soon-to-open Four Seasons (located in one of the newest high-rises dotting the Cumberland Riverfront). But, one hotel brand that wouldn’t usually be my first choice in a city as dynamic as Nashville has me unexpectedly pining for a stay.

Meet the brand-new Embassy Suites Downtown Nashville, the largest Embassy Suites in the country and one that seems to be establishing a cool new standard for this classic, family-friendly brand.

Here are a few reasons why I’m excited to stay at this Hilton Honors-associated hotel on my next trip to Nashville, my home away from home.

For an Embassy Suites, it looks pretty awesome

I have to be honest, Embassy Suites isn’t the sexiest hotel brand out there. But, it seems that Hilton is shaking things up with its latest family addition. Instead of the same old cookie-cutter properties near-ish to big tourist attractions or around airports, the new Nashville property feels design-forward and is found, quite literally, in the heart of all of the downtown action.

Just steps away from the Music City Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Bridgestone Arena, the location alone is a major selling point. In fact, it’s right next to 1Hotel Nashville, a trendy hotel that recently opened, as well as the JW Marriott and the Westin, both super popular high-rise hotels. The Embassy Suites is a high-rise itself, towering 30 stories over downtown and offering incredible views of Nashville’s emblematic skyline and rolling green hills.

Inside, this Embassy Suites trades in its customary bland lobby decor and neutral color palette for a locally-inspired treatment featuring wood and steel elements alongside a lobby with a huge wall mural depicting celebrated country artists like Dolly Parton. In fact, the building itself was designed to highlight the city’s musical traditions, with the roof taking the shape of a fiddle’s bow and a front facade meant to look like sheet music.

Let’s just say this isn’t the Embassy Suites of your childhood.

The rooms have a lot to offer

I’ve stayed at a few Embassy Suites, and while I’ve always found them spacious and comfortable, this one seems to be offering even more. For starters, this all-suite hotel has 507 different rooms, meaning it’s big, but also has a bunch of different room types to select from.

For me, the most exciting part is that 27 of the King Suites, located on floors four through six, have balconies overlooking downtown that provide a comfortable space for fresh air and maybe even the chance to hear some of the music from Broadway floating in. Even many of the other rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows for great views and natural light.

Every single room has a kitchenette with a coffee maker for a much-needed caffeine fix, plus a microwave and a refrigerator. And in the living rooms, there’s plenty of space to spread out. As someone who has stayed at a ton of different downtown hotels here, I can say that space is rare.

Furthermore, the rooms also have a pretty elevated design for an Embassy Suites, with modern touches like wooden accent walls and flooring, artwork celebrating the best of Music City and a light and airy feel that matches the laid-back vibes of Nashville.

Even better, the hotel offers confirmed connecting rooms, so if you’re traveling with a group or extended family you can take up even more space.

It’s taking food and drinks to new heights

And I mean that quite literally: The Overlook, located on the 30th floor, is the highest rooftop bar and restaurant in town. Serving cocktails and small bites, this new establishment seems like a great place to start a night downtown while catching a beautiful sunset over the hills.

Early next year, the hotel will open Hand Cut Chophouse on the lobby level. The first out-of-state outpost of the Arizona steakhouse, the restaurant will serve steaks, burgers, signature cocktails, beer and bring its award-winning wine list to the Volunteer State.

At Good Citizen Coffee Co., expect great coffee from an in-state coffee roaster. Plus, every night the hotel offers a complimentary evening reception for guests to gather and imbibe.

You get a free, award-winning breakfast

Earlier this year, TPG sent me on a very hearty task: Find the best free hotel breakfast in the country. Over the course of a week I ate more breakfast than one should ever possibly eat. Even though my stomach hurt after the experience, I know Hilton was celebrating my pain when we declared Embassy Suites the winner of TPG Battle of the Free Breakfast.

And lucky for you, if you book a stay at the Embassy Suites Downtown Nashville you can have a taste of that delicious free breakfast for yourself, including made-to-order omelets, fluffy scrambled eggs, pre-made omelets, bacon, breakfast sausage and home fries alongside healthier options like melons, yogurt and oatmeal.

Breakfast on the road can get expensive, especially for large families, so this amenity alone offers a pretty great saving in the grand scheme of a vacation.

At this location, breakfast is served at Harmony, which later in the day turns into the location for the aforementioned evening reception and even hosts live music, in true Nashville fashion.

There’s a sky-high indoor pool

I’m a big fan of a year-round indoor swimming pool. Contrary to popular belief, it can get cold in the South — and Nashville is no exception. This indoor rooftop pool is surrounded by towering glass windows to let in natural light, so you can basically swim in the clouds and even have a drink or snack from the pool bar.

As for other physical activities, there’s a 24/7 fitness center so you can work off all the fried goodness you’re bound to eat.

It seems decently priced for Nashville

From experience, I can tell you that hotel rates in Nashville fluctuate wildly depending on what’s going on in town. If there’s a big conference, a big concert or music festival, or some major sporting event, rates can shoot through the roof. In summer and fall when tourists and bachelorette parties flock to Nashville, along with New Year’s Eve, expect to pay a pretty penny for a room.

Right now, though, rates at the Embassy Suites Downtown Nashville look pretty manageable. Through the end of the year there are a handful of nights available for as low as $175 a night using the Honors Discount Non-Refundable Rate, though most nights are more in the mid-$200 range and shoot up to over $500 a night a few times.

Hilton Honors members can find award nights starting as low as 59,000 points a night, though the majority of nights through the end of the year are 70,000 points. With the Hilton Honors American Express Card you could snag a free night at this Nashville hotel by earning 100,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 on purchases on the Hilton Honors Card in the first three months of membership.

There are more than enough hotel options for travelers to Nashville, and more and more keep being added to the mix. For Hilton loyalists, big groups, families or those just looking for space to spread out while in town, this new Embassy Suites seems to be a solid option. Though we haven’t reviewed it ourselves, it’s clear that Hilton is looking to spread the popular brand’s wings and let it evolve into a more contemporary brand that attracts different types of travelers in more exciting neighborhoods than ever before.

And as someone who feels like they’ve seen Nashville from every angle, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be there eventually to see one of my favorite cities from that stunning rooftop pool.
