Is there anything better than cozying up near a fire in a cabin during the cooler months? Maybe it’s waking up early in a cabin during the summer to spend a day fishing, hiking or just breathing in some fresh natural air.
Luckily, you don’t have to just rent a random cabin to make either of those experiences happen. You can actually book a room at a cabin-style hotel or a hotel that offers standalone cabins, chalets or cottages while still offering all the amenities of a hotel like restaurants, bars, swimming pools and activities.
Really, it’s hard to define what a cabin hotel is because there are a lot of different options spread all across the country and into Canada. Here, you’ll find a handful of our favorites, from a brand-new modern cabin resort in the Hudson Valley to one of the most luxe stay experiences at Walt Disney World to lakeside resorts in the form of burly lincoln log cabins.
Now the question is, which one is right for you?
Fairmont Jasper
FAIRMONT
In Canada, Fairmont has some of the most beautiful hotels in the country, and Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta is no exception.
Guests can book regular hotel rooms, suites that feel like a cabin or full-on Signature Cabins ranging from roughly 500 square feet to some over 5,000. At the resort, indulge in winter activities like skiing or hit up the golf course or nearby lakes for some summer fun.
To really relax, enjoy a moment of zen in the spa, then fill up at one of the resort’s many eateries like Orso Trattoria, a modern Italian restaurant.
How to book: Rates start around $280 in the winter and go up significantly in the summer. Accor Live Limitless members can use 2,000 points at a time to offset the cost of the hotel stay by 40 euros (equal to about $40).

Whiteface Lodge
WHITEFACE LODGE
In Lake Placid, New York, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, Whiteface Lodge is an upscale, “rustic timber” resort that offers year-round fun in cabin-like rooms and suites (some up to three bedrooms).
Inside the rooms, the rustic design is elegant, yet homey, while the lodge itself is decked out in antlers, stone and wooden chairs.
During the day, explore the town, ski, check out the lake or visit the spa. At night, cozy up next to an outdoor firepit after filling up on lamb shank or bluefin tuna at Kanu, the elegant restaurant inside the hotel.
How to book: Cash rates start at $345 and go up dramatically during the busy winter months.

Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch
MARRIOTT
After reopening in July following a massive transformation that began in 2020, the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Avon, Colorado, is the perfect place for people seeking a cabin-like hotel experience any time of the year.
Though the property doesn’t offer stand-alone cabins, the resort itself is a massive log-and-stone resort with elevated and contemporary rooms, including a club level.
With ski-in, and ski-out access, a variety of nearby golf experiences and a 21,000-square-foot spa, there’s plenty of activity to keep guests busy. For a truly unique experience, hit up Sakaba, the new Japanese restaurant, for sushi — because who said you can’t eat sushi in a cabin?
How to book: You can find cash rates as low as $313 a night for a fall stay. However, expect those rates to jump significantly — nearly $1,000 and up — during the winter months. Marriott Bonvoy members can book an award night starting at 82,000 points per night, but peak nights hit 120,000 points per night quite frequently.
With the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card, you can snag a free night at this popular Ritz-Carlton by earning 100,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
Rawah Ranch
TYLER HILL
Not all cabins are in the mountains for skiers and hikers. Some are tucked away on luxury guest ranches full of cowboys, horses and nature experiences. In Colorado’s Laramie River Valley, Rawah Ranch, part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, has all of that — and more.
Spend your nights in one of the ranch’s cabins that range in size from small and cozy to large and spacious. During the day flyfish in the Laramie River, ride horses on one of 22 trails, learn shooting and archery with a professional instructor or paddleboard on the water.
An all-inclusive experience, three meals a day are included and feature “Colorado ranch cuisine.”

The Resort at Paws Up
THE RESORT AT PAWS UP
Spread across 37,000 acres of virtually untouched land in Montana, The Resort at Paws Up claims it’s “a national park in every way. Except it’s private.” We’d have to agree.
At Paws Up, which is open year-round, there are tons of activities to enjoy like climbing and hiking, horseback riding, live music, photography and painting workshops, whitewater rafting, hot air ballooning and so much more.
Another all-inclusive dude ranch, Paws Up offers 27 cabins that come in four different styles, from one to four bedrooms.

Hutton Brickyards
HUTTON BRICKYARDS
It’s easy to think of cabins as old-school, rustic and easily outdated. However, a new class of chic and modern cabins has been popping up at boutique hotels around the country.
Hutton Brickyards is in Kingston, New York, right by the Hudson River. Guests can connect with town and country while sleeping in a series of modern, cozy cabins with king or queen beds, floor-to-ceiling windows with porches, minifridges and apothecary bath products in an Instagram-friendly setting.
In the mornings, fresh breakfast and coffee or tea are delivered right to the cabin. Kingston also features many restaurants to enjoy for other meals. To really relax, hit up the spa where you can unwind in a waterfront sauna or get a massage, facial or back facial.
How to book: Cash rates start at $195 a night.
Gather Greene
GATHER GREENE
Another modern property off the Hudson River in New York, Gather Greene has a handful of beautiful, custom-designed cabins with giant windows looking out in scenic directions.
A popular spot for weddings, Gather Greene accommodates guests only on weekends when weddings aren’t taking place and only Thursdays through Mondays for two-night stays.
In the morning, fresh coffee, tea and oatmeal are available while guests are encouraged to explore the surrounding area for other meals. It’s a place to really unwind. Activities here include hiking, lounging in hammocks (probably with a good book) or just soaking up some peace and quiet at the cabin.
How to book: Cash rates start at $305 a night.
Wildflower Farms
AUBERGE RESORTS COLLECTION
A new resort from Auberge, a brand that usually hits the nail on the head when it comes to one-of-a-kind luxury experiences, Wildflower Farms is (shocker) another modern-but-cozy property in the Hudson Valley.
Just 90 minutes from New York City, Wildflower Farms offers a variety of accommodation types including 60 chic stand-alone cabins and cottages. With an almost ’70s vibe, these cabins feel fresh but somehow nostalgic and feature private terraces.
Guests can help feed the farm’s animals, take a floral arranging class, soak in an outdoor hot tub or get a spa treatment infused with locally-sourced products and savor new American flavors with fresh, local ingredients at Clay.
How to book: Cash rates start at $390 a night.
Alila Ventana Big Sur
HYATT
This is one of our absolute favorite resorts here at The Points Guy. One could argue that Alila Ventana Big Sur in California falls into the category of cabin hotels, though others might disagree.
Honestly, who cares. When you look at the different room types, ranging from suites with wood-paneled walls to a 1,000-square-foot villa, it’s clear that this place offers rustic luxury that can’t be beaten.
At this World of Hyatt-affiliated property, guests can indulge in delicious Pacific seafood at The Sur House, join a guided yoga or meditation class, hike in the forest amongst redwoods, throw axes to relieve some stress or just let it all go with a rejuvenating spa treatment.
Better yet, this resort is adult-only and meals and most activities are included in the price.
How to book: Cash rates vary greatly depending on the time of year you visit, but are easily over $1,000 a night for double occupancy. Book award stays at this World of Hyatt Category 8 hotel for 35,000, 40,000 or 45,000 points per night, depending on peak/off-peak pricing.
Disney’s Grand Californian
SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY
Believe it or not, Disney parks in both Florida and California are some of the best places to find a cabin hotel experience.
At Disneyland, the Grand California Resort, between Disney’s California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney, guests will find rustic interiors, a redwood tree-themed pool, a lodge-style bar, a buffet and a restaurant serving California-inspired meals.
The cabin-themed rooms include subtle Disney details like the characters Chip and Dale hiding in plain sight alongside California art and modern conveniences you probably wouldn’t find in most cabins.
How to book: Disney hotels can be expensive, and being one of the best at Disneyland, this one doesn’t come cheap. Cash rates are usually over $700 a night.
Wilderness Lodge
SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY
One of the cheaper options of Disney World’s luxury resorts, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge takes cabin hotels to the next level. Unfortunately, this resort is not within walking distance of any of the parks but it is a short boat ride away from The Magic Kingdom.
The design was inspired by turn-of-the-century national park lodges. Disney fans here can expect heavy rustic design, storybook dining with Snow White and rocking chairs overlooking a calming creek.
Adults can enjoy a beverage at a log cabin-themed bar while the kiddos can watch movies under the stars or roast s’mores at a firepit.
How to book: Entry-level rates usually range between $500 and $700 a night but can often cost more, depending on the time of year you visit.
Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY
One last luxe Disney World entry to the list, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is almost a bonus, as these 26 cabins are technically part of the Wilderness Lodge but on a whole different level — and in a whole different price point.
These cabins can sleep up to eight guests across a king bed, queen bed, a queen pull-out sofa, single pull-down bed and single sleeper chair, meaning that there’s room for the whole family, which can help justify the price.
They also include a Jacuzzi-style soaking tub, a hot tub on the deck, a luxe living room with a giant TV and fireplace, a kitchen and even grills to cook on.
How to book: Expect these cabins to cost easily over $2,000 a night. Book fast, these fill up quickly.
